How to use the generator in 3 steps
Type the recipient's email address
This is the address that will receive the messages, for example your business address.
Set the subject and message (optional)
A clear subject helps you filter and prioritize the emails that arrive from that link.
Copy the link and use it
Paste it in a button on your website, in your email signature or in an email marketing campaign.
How a mailto link works
A mailto: link is a type of address that, instead of opening a web page, opens the user's email program with a new message. Its basic format is:
mailto:contacto%40empresa.com?subject=Consulta&body=Hola%2C%20quiero%20m%C3%A1s%20informaci%C3%B3n
- The recipient goes after
mailto:. In the generated link you'll see the @ as%40; that is normal and email programs read it correctly. subjectsets the subject andbodythe message body.- Spaces, accents and line breaks are URL-encoded. QLinky does it for you.
If you need more options, you can append &cc= for a copy and &bcc= for a blind copy at the end of the link. Multiple recipients are separated by commas.
Where you can use an email link
- “Contact us” button on your website: opens an email with the subject you choose, without a form.
- Email signature and digital business cards: one tap and the person writes to you.
- Email campaigns: a “Reply” button with the subject already set so you can identify the campaign.
- Quote or support requests: a message body with the questions you need answered.
Tips and limits
- Use subjects that help you sort, for example “[Web] Quote request”.
- Keep the message short. Very long links can fail in some email programs.
- It depends on each person's email program. If they don't have one set up on their device or browser, the link may not open anything.
- Your address is visible in the page code. A mailto link doesn't hide the address; if spam worries you, a contact form is an alternative.
Example with a copy and several lines
This link opens an email to sales, with a copy to support, and a three-line body. Line breaks are written %0D%0A:
mailto:[email protected][email protected]&subject=Pedido%20de%20presupuesto&body=Hola%2C%0D%0A%0D%0AQuiero%20un%20presupuesto%20para%3A
What a mailto link cannot do: attach files, format the text or send the email without the person confirming it. The full reference is in the mailto parameters guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I create a mailto link with a subject and a message?
Type the recipient's address, the subject and the message body, and press “Generate Email link”. You'll get a URL that starts with mailto: and opens a new email with those details already filled in.
Can I add several recipients or a copy (CC)?
Yes. After generating the link you can separate several recipients with commas and append &cc= for a copy or &bcc= for a blind copy.
Why doesn't the link open anything?
A mailto link uses the device's default email program. If the person doesn't have one set up, or their browser isn't linked to a service like Gmail, no email may open.
Does it work with Gmail and Outlook?
Yes, as long as the device or the browser is set to open email links with that application.
Can I put line breaks in the message?
Yes. The line breaks you type in the message box are encoded automatically and will appear in the email body.
Does QLinky store my email address or my message?
No. The link is generated in your browser and no information is sent to or stored on any server.
