Create a click-to-call phone link (tel:) in one tap
Type your number with the country code and get a link that opens the phone dialer with the number ready. Ideal for a “Call now” button.
Everything is generated in your browser. We don't store phone numbers, emails or messages on any server.
How to use the generator in 3 steps
Type your number with the country code
Use the international format that starts with +, for example +13051234567 for the United States.
Generate the link
QLinky removes spaces, dashes and brackets and builds the URL in the tel: format.
Copy it and place it where you need it
In a button on your mobile site, in an email, in your signature or in a message.
How a tel: link works
A tel: link is an address that, instead of opening a page, asks the device to call a number. Its format is: tel:+529981234567.
- Include the
+sign and the country code. That way the number works from any country. - Don't use spaces, dashes or brackets inside the link. QLinky removes them automatically.
- On a phone, tapping the link opens the dialer with the number already typed. The person must confirm the call; it doesn't dial by itself.
Where to use a call link
- “Call now” button on your website: especially useful for local businesses, clinics, restaurants and home services.
- Emails and signatures: the number stops being plain text and becomes one tap to call.
- Messages and mobile campaigns: makes immediate contact easy from a phone.
Many social networks only accept links that start with http or https in the profile link field. That is why a WhatsApp link usually works better on Instagram or TikTok. A tel: link is ideal for your website, your emails and your messages.
Tips and limits
- Show the number as text too next to the button, for people who prefer to dial it by hand.
- On a computer the behavior changes. Depending on what is installed (Teams, Skype, FaceTime or another app), it may open that application or do nothing.
- Test the link from your phone before publishing it to confirm the number is correct.
Numbers with an extension
If your line has a switchboard that asks for an extension, you can include it in the link. Add one comma for each pause of about two seconds and then the extension:
tel:+525512345678,,123
The phone calls, waits and dials 123 by itself. The generator on this page removes commas, so this case is put together by hand from the generated link. More details in the tel: and sms: links guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I create a link to call a number?
Type your number in international format (with + and the country code) and press “Generate call link”. You'll get a URL in the format tel:+NUMBER that you can use in a button or in a message.
Does the link dial the number automatically?
No. On a phone it opens the dialer with the number typed and the person must press the call button to confirm.
Why should I include the + sign and the country code?
Because that way the number works from any country and doesn't depend on where the caller is. Example: +1 for the United States, +44 for the United Kingdom, +52 for Mexico.
Does it work on a computer?
It depends on the machine. If it has a calling application installed, such as Teams, Skype or FaceTime, it may open it; otherwise nothing may happen.
Can I use the link in my Instagram bio?
Many social networks only accept http or https links in the link field, so a tel: link may not work there. In those cases a WhatsApp link is better. A tel: link works very well on websites, in emails and in messages.
Does QLinky store my phone number?
No. The link is generated in your browser and the number is not sent to or stored on any server.
