How to put a WhatsApp link in your Instagram bio

Instagram doesn't allow links in posts or comments, so your profile is where a WhatsApp link pays off most. These are the steps and the details that keep the link from failing.

Step 1: create the link with a message that identifies the channel

Generate your wa.me link with the number in international format. Add a pre-filled message that says where the person is coming from, for example “Hi, I'm writing from Instagram”. That way you'll know which inquiries come from your profile without installing anything.

Step 2: add it to your profile

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Go to Links and choose Add external link.
  4. Paste the URL and type a short title, for example “Message us on WhatsApp”.
  5. Save the changes.

Instagram allows several links in the profile. When there is more than one, it shows the first one and a counter (“and 2 more”), so keep the WhatsApp link first if it is your main channel.

What if I'd rather be messaged on Instagram?

There is also a link that opens your message inbox directly: https://ig.me/m/your_username. It is useful on your website, in an email or in a printed QR code.
